Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra

by Anand

Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, another step in my love affair with hills,  is a collection of short stories from Ruskin Bond, the author best known for his children stories. Most of the stories in this collection are therefore somehow related to the childhood of the author. Semi-autobiographical in nature. But these stories will give you joy no matter what you age or mood is. In fact if you have long crossed the stage called childhood, these stories hits you with a pang of nostalgia. It reminds you of all the summer vacations that you spent chasing rabbits or mapping the path of the butterflies in the backyard of your nani ka ghar.

Most of the stories are set in the hills of past when life was not complicated as now. You can find innocent and foolish dreams of childhood scattered throughout the book and it reminds that all the complexities are our own devise. Reading these stories makes you feels like being led towards your childhood by the pied piper of Indian hills.
